What was most extraordinary about them were the eyes - large, dark, gleaming, with a sharp gaze. They were short, shorter than the average Japanese, and their heads were big and bald, with strong, square foreheads, and very small noses and mouths, and weak chins. ".the creatures did not resemble any race of humans. Other occultists and ufologists, many of whom have retroactively linked Lam to later Grey encounters, have since described their own visitations from him, with one describing the being as a "cold, computer-like intelligence," and utterly beyond human comprehension. Crowley believed he had contacted the entity through a process that he called the "Amalantrah Workings," which he thought allowed humans to contact beings from outer space and across dimensions. Crowley's drawing of "Lam", the entity that he believed he was in contact withĪs early as 1917, the occultist Aleister Crowley described a meeting with a "preternatural entity" named Lam that was similar in appearance to a modern Grey. In 1895, Wells also depicted the Eloi, a successor species to humanity, in similar terms in the novel The Time Machine. Wells presented a description of humanity's future appearance in the article The Man of the Year Million, describing humans as having no mouths, noses, or hair, and with large heads. In 1891, the novel Meda: A Tale of the Future was published by Kenneth Folingsby, in which the narrator encountered small, grey-skinned aliens with balloon-shaped heads. The origins of the Grey alien may go back to the late 19th century. Upon learning of this, Fish attempted to create a model from a drawing produced by Hill, eventually determining that the stars marked as the aliens' home were Zeta Reticuli, a binary star system. ![]() Betty Hill, under hypnosis, had claimed to have been shown a map that displayed the aliens' home system and nearby stars. The association between Grey aliens and Zeta Reticuli originated with the interpretation of a map drawn by Betty Hill by a schoolteacher named Marjorie Fish sometime in 1969. They are frequently described as shorter than average adult humans. ![]() In drawings, Greys are almost always shown with very large, opaque, black eyes. Greys are depicted as having unusually large heads in proportion to their bodies with no hair on the body, and no noticeable outer ears or noses, sometimes with small openings or orifices for ears, nostrils, and mouths. Their legs are depicted as being shorter and jointed differently from humans with limbs proportionally different from a human. Their bodies are usually depicted as being elongated, having a small chest, and lacking in muscular definition and visible skeletal structure. Greys are typically depicted as grey-skinned, diminutive humanoid beings that possess reduced forms of, or completely lack, external human body parts such as noses, ears, or sex organs. The Grey alien has emerged as an archetypal image of an intelligent non-human creature and extraterrestrial life in general, as well as an iconic trope of popular culture in the age of space exploration. ![]() Precursor figures have been described in science fiction and similar descriptions appeared in early accounts of the 1948 Aztec UFO Hoax and later accounts of the 1947 Roswell UFO incident. The Barney and Betty Hill abduction claim, which purportedly took place in New Hampshire in 1961, popularized Grey aliens. The details of such claims vary widely, however Greys are typically described as being human-like with small bodies, smooth, grey-colored skin enlarged, hairless heads and large, black eyes. They are frequent subjects of close encounters and alien abduction claims. Grey aliens, also referred to as Zeta Reticulans, Roswell Greys, or Grays, are purported extraterrestrial beings. ![]() Sigma sound studio11/19/2023 ![]() ![]() What background did your dad have to make him decide to open his own studio? Download spamsieve mac11/19/2023 ![]() The upgrade is free for registered users new copies cost $25. SpamSieve 2.0 requires Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later with Emailer, Entourage, Eudora 5.2 or later, Mailsmith, and PowerMail. One final nice touch: SpamSieve now displays the number of good messages from the last mail check on its Dock icon. A number of tweaks should improve SpamSieve’s accuracy: it now extracts more information from each message, parses HTML better, understands common plain text obfuscations, marks messages with Habeas headers as good, and uses a new method of calculating word probabilities. Michael also added an automatically maintained blocklist (the addresses of senders of mail marked as spam) and whitelist (the addresses of senders of mail marked as good) keeping these inside SpamSieve’s database eliminates the need to clutter your address book with unnecessary addresses. SpamSieve 2.0 now integrates with Eudora 6.0 as a plug-in (in both Paid and Sponsored modes, whereas Eudora’s own SpamWatch works only in Paid mode), which makes it significantly easier to use within Eudora. Michael Tsai has released SpamSieve 2.0, a major upgrade to his helpful Bayesian filtering-based anti-spam tool (see " Tools We Use: SpamSieve" in TidBITS 667 for a review). #1668: Updated Rapid Security Responses, OS public betas, screen saver bug fixed, “Red Team Blues” book review.#1669: OS security updates, ambiguity of emoji, small business payments with Melio, Twitter now X.#1670: Arc Web browser hits 1.0 release, “Do You Use It?” polls about Apple features.#1671: Apple Q3 2023 earnings, new Beats headphones and earbuds, Stage Manager adoption rate, do you use Spotlight?.1672: The hidden power of Google Sheets, Launchpad usage levels, Emergency SOS via satellite in the Maui fires, do you use proxy icons?.Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.SpamSieve supports AppleScript, so you can connect it to additional apps and fully integrate it into a custom workflow.Unlike server-based spam filtering services, your mail data stays on your own Mac, so your privacy is preserved. The corpus window and log let you see how each spam message was caught.Turn off new-mail notification in your e-mail program, and let SpamSieve notify you only when you receive non-spam messages.SpamSieve keeps track of how accurate it is, how many good and spam messages you receive, and how these numbers change over time.Optionally it can mark them all as spam, on the theory that legitimate senders do not try to obscure their messages. SpamSieve can decode and look inside these messages. Many spammers encode the contents of their messages so that filters cannot see the incriminating words they contain. Can use the Habeas Safelist, which indicates messages that are not spam, as well as the “ADV” subject tag indicating that a message is spam. The rules can match text in a variety of ways, including using regular expressions. You can customize the whitelist and blocklist, adding sophisticated rules that match various message headers, or the message body.Automatically maintains a whitelist to guarantee that messages from particular senders or mailing lists are never marked as spam, without cluttering your address book with these addresses.Automatically maintains a blocklist so that it can instantly adapt to spam messages sent from particular addresses, and catch 100% of them.Integrates with the macOS Contacts app (and also Eudora’s and Entourage’s address books) so that messages from friends and colleagues are never marked as spam.Colors show how spammy each message is, so you can quickly focus on the borderline ones if you want to check SpamSieve’s work.SpamSieve running on your Mac can keep the spam off your iPhone/iPad, and you can even train SpamSieve from afar. There is no extra charge for additional addresses or devices. Importantly, they also noted that the high-dose was associated with more diarrhea and vomiting. The authors found a comparable response rate in the low-dose group versus the high-dose group with both found to be superior to placebo. In this study, 184 patients experiencing acute gout flares were randomized to either a low dose regimen (1.2 mg dose followed by one 0.6 mg dose one hour later), a high-dose regimen (1.2 mg dose followed by one 0.6 mg dose every hour up to a maximum of 4.8 mg), or placebo. The AGREE (Acute Gout Flare Receiving Colchicine Evaluation) trial was the first randomized, placebo-controlled trial to compare low and high-dose colchicine. The authors found that two-thirds of colchicine-treated patients experienced pain reduction within 48 hours, compared with one-third of patients in the placebo group experiencing similar response however, patients reported diarrhea prior to relief of symptoms. In the first randomized, placebo-controlled trial assessing the efficacy and toxicity of colchicine in acute gout, patients were treated with an initial 1 mg dose followed by sequential doses of 0.5 mg every 2 hours until either significant symptomatic relief or intolerance. 2 Despite its longstanding use, few randomized controlled trials have evaluated its efficacy empirically. As noted above, all of these pathways are affected by colchicine. ![]() Inflammation in gout is mediated by a combination of neutrophil and macrophage activation, leukocyte adhesion molecules, inflammasome activation as well as IL-1β production. 8 Given these extensive effects on inflammation, it is not surprising that the use of colchicine has been explored in a number of inflammatory conditions.Ĭolchicine has been known as a treatment for gout for several millenia. 4 In keeping with this effect on inflammatory modulators, in vivo and in vitro studies demonstrate decreased levels of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β, IFNγ, IL-18 and IL-6 with colchicine use. 7īy impairing vesicular trafficking, colchicine is able to both decrease TNF-α receptor expression on macrophages (preventing activation) and interrupt granule release in mast cells (preventing degranulation). 6 Neutrophil function is additionally compromised by colchicine via suppression of neutrophil superoxide production, a key contributor to the inflammatory response seen in neutrophil activation. 5 It further prevents neutrophil migration by decreasing the inducing effects of platelet activating factor and leukotriene-β4 on neutrophil adherence. The drug decreases neutrophil L-selectin expression and modulates E-selectin expression on the cell surface of endothelial cells, thereby impairing neutrophil recruitment. Microtubules (red) were imaged by immunostaining with monoclonal anti-alpha tubulin antibody and the DNA in the nucleus (blue) was revealed by Hoechst stain.Ĭolchicine impairs neutrophil function by impacting inflammatory pathways and mediators of neutrophil activation. The cells are UW-BCC1 cells (58), grown on glass coverslips and imaged. The exact mechanism by which this colchicine induced MT destabilization leads to alteration of cell function remains unclear.įluorescence microscopy images of basal cell carcinoma cell line showing the microtubule cytoskeleton and the nucleus. Colchicine binds to tubulin heterodimers and alters the tubulin conformation, allowing the tubulin dimer-colchicine complex to add to the growing end of a MT but preventing any further growth, thus poisoning the dynamics of that MT. Structurally, MT are hollow cylinders composed of protofilaments, which in turn are made from αβ-tubulin heterodimers polymerized end to end. These dynamics allow changes in MT distribution and in overall cell shape ( Figure 3). ![]() 3, 4 MT dynamics originate in a balance of polymer growth and shrinkage, mostly at the MT end that is distal to the nucleus. MTs serve as a major part of our cellular cytoskeleton, and are essential to cellular functions such as mitosis, as well as intracellular organelle and vesicle trafficking. In the 1950’s and 1960’s the microtubule (MT) was identified as the primary cellular target. Despite its use for thousands of years, colchicine’s exact mechanism of action is still being explored. ![]() ![]() Zeno’s paradox questions the conclusion of a geometric sequence, which paradoxically questions Atalanta’s ability to complete her walk to the end of the path! Zeno’s Paradox reads:.Without considering any other changes to the reservoir’s volume, how much water will have evaporated over a one-year period? Suppose a reservoir contains an average of \(1.4\) billion gallons of water and loses water due to evaporation at a rate of \(2\%\) per month. Changes can occur to any water supply due to inflow and outflow, but evaporation is one of the factors of water depletion.
